Lawrence Firefighters responded to Box 6111 for a fire at the Merrimac Paper Company complex at 9 South Canal Street. Arriving companies had heavy smoke showing from a posted large 1-3 story brick mill warehouse. Three alarms were transmitted quickly and companies had to take the defensive. Two ladder pipes along with several deck guns and large handlines finally began to darken down the heavy fire but not before the building suffered several collapses.
